Golfing The Weather Away

September 7, 2010

In this, case, however, it is not about the money.

With much of the nation besieged by snow in recent days, many people would probably love to have to travel to Florida every weekend during March or maybe skip a weekend and go to Puerto Rico (what a rough life).

The Honda Classic kicks off the month for March 4-7th.  Held at the PGA National Champion Course in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, players will compete for a piece of the $5.6 million prize in temperatures that range from a high of 79 degrees to a low of 62.

On the following weekend golfers will be faced with a bit of a dilemma.  Do they return to lovely Florida to play in the TPC Blue Monster at Doral in Miami, Florida or go to Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Open played at the Trump International Golf Course?  Miami will likely be between the low 60s and low 80s while Puerto Rico will be a bit cooler (60s and low 70s).  The size of the purse will probably be the deciding factor for many golfers (stay in country and the purse is about $5 million more).

Those that do decide to go to Puerto Rico will be able to return to Florida the following weekend (18-21st) for the Transitions Championship. A $5.4 million purse will be up for grabs as golfers test their skill at the Innisbrook Resort – Copperhead in Tampa Bay.  Temperatures can’t get more comfortable either (mid-70s).

For the final weekend of March golfers will descend on Orlando, Florida, and the Bay Hill Club and Lounge for the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by MasterCard.  The $6 million purse will attract many while some may relish the thought of unseating current champion Tiger Woods. For the final tournament in Florida for March the weather will be rather pleasant in the mid-70s once again.

So while the fans will be toiling away in their offices and cubicles, braving all sorts of hazards due to ice and snow on the roads, guys will be getting paid to play a game in some of the nicest weather Mother Nature can make.

It sure must be nice to be a professional golfer.
